Week in TV 8/14: Olympics 24/7 – Sweat, tears, and medals galore
By: Alyssa and DRWHO42
What an epic week of competition from Rio! Coverage of the Olympics will dominate the NBC Universal networks this next week and we advise downloading their apps to stay current on the sporting event times, streaming of events, and replays.
Focusing on Geek & pop culture TV Outcast ended Season 1 in a great way last week. This upcoming week is light but there are a couple of recommendations: Star Trek 50, Geeking Out, & Talking Dead Season 7 Preview.
DRWHO42’s picks:
New: Olympics (Supporting all athletes pursuing their Olympic goals!)
On-going: Mr. Robot (falling behind due to the Olympics)
Binge: Olympics day coverage and news.
Alyssa’s picks:
New/Returning: Trek 50, Geeking out & Talking Dead
Ongoing: BrainDead, Dark Matter, Killjoys, Last Ship & Mr. Robot
Still Binging: Gotham <yes– still!>
Notable shows are highlighted in red.

Following its special San Diego Comic Con(R) episode, “Geeking Out” returns Sunday, August 14 at 11 PM ET/PT with all new episodes. AMC’s new late-night talk show, hosted by Kevin Smith (“Comic Book Men,” “Clerks”) and Greg Grunberg (“Heroes, “Heroes Reborn” “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”), takes a timely look at pop culture through a fanboy lens and features talk, celebrity interviews, and out-of-the-studio segments. The following week the show will shift to midnight, its regular timeslot. In this new episode, Kevin and Greg chat with Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk about their time on the gone-too-soon Joss Whedon series “Firefly” as well as their hilarious web series “Con Man,” which shattered crowd-funding records for the first season. They talk geek news and rumors, and get some behind-the-scenes scoop on the next installments of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Star Wars,” thanks to Nathan and Alan’s upcoming guest-starring roles. Then, our hosts visit Greg’s oldest friend, renowned director J.J. Abrams, on the Universal Studios Backlot to talk about his new HBO series “Westworld,” and reminisce about coming up in the business together. Click for more info
