Week in TV 11/13: Time, Space, and Good Behavior

By Alyssa & DRWHO42

New shows this week include an ambitious project on the National Geographic channel titled Mars. The approach for Mars is unique and is presented as a hybrid of documentary and script-based. The documentary segments take place in 2016 while the script-based portions are set in 2033. The scripted side is exceptionally well done with well written back stories and good effects, reminiscent of the 2015 movie The Martian. The other geek show addition is an anitmated recreation of Doctor Who’s Power of the Daleks. This is a six-part story from the first incarnation of our beloved Doctor. The footage was lost however the audio reels were found and the story was recreated through animation. This story is a milestone because it introduces viewers to our first regeneration – from William Hartnell (the original Doctor) to Patrick Troughton (the second Doctor). Doctor Who fans will certainly be delighted by this event.

Non-geeky additions worth checking out this week are Good Behavior on TNT, Undercover on BBC America, and Shooter on USA.  Good Behavior follows Letty Dobesh, played by Michelle Dockery (Downtown Abby) a recovering addict, felon, and grifter. The show starts off as solid TV then heads off in an absorbing direction you’ll want to watch, trust me. This is on my short ‘must watch live’ list. Shooter was scheduled to air a while ago however due to a real life shooting incident in Dallas USA delayed it’s premiere. Based off of the book & 2007 movie, the series is worth checking out for high production values and a good acting.

There are a few Fall finales this week with Channel Zero, American Horror Story, How To Get Away With Murder, and Grey’s Anatomy taking bows.

BBCA Doctor Who: The Power Of The Daleks – S1 – Ep1 [Special Presentation]

It’s one of the most celebrated Doctor Who adventures and yet no complete film recordings of The Power of the Daleks are known to have survived — the master negatives were destroyed in an archive purge in 1974. BBC America and BBC Worldwide have commissioned a brand new animation based on the program’s original audio recordings, surviving photographs and film clips that will be released 50 years after its only UK broadcast on BBC One. The six-part adventure features the regeneration, or as it was then called “renewal,” of first Doctor, William Hartnell into second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, as the Time Lord and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan. click to learn more

Alyssa bought her first comic at age 7 and was hooked. She has collected comics most of her life. Recently, she has branched out to comic art and books and the occasional Lego set. She goes to as many cons as she can and enjoys the 'long form' storytelling of the television medium. She is also a foodie and is always up for trying new and different food.
