Silicon Valley Comic Con Announces Space Theme for 2017

Today (December 15, 2016) Silicon Valley Comic Con (SVCC) announced their theme for their 2017 convention, to be held April 21-23, 2017 in San Jose, CA. The Future of Humanity: Where Will We Be in 2075? will focus heavily on space exploration from a scientific and commercial perspective. Steve Wozniak (Apple Computer co-founder and driving force behind SVCC) wants to explore the question of how humanity’s future will look after the next few decades. “The future of space exploration is so exciting: by 2075, will we have discovered aliens?” he asks.  “Made private space travel affordable and commonplace? Shifted our manufacturing to space factories? Colonized Mars? Established our first Starfleet Academy? Formed a Galactic Senate?”

This theme will carry over to all aspects of the convention, including its guests. Announced guests range from pop culture guests such as Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, and cast members from Star Trek: The Next Generation, to science personalities such as Andy Weir (author of The Martian) and Adam Savage (former host of Mythbusters) and to representatives from NASA, Virgin Galactic, and the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, among others.

There will also be numerous panels and exhibits focused around this theme at the convention. “We don’t want to spoil the surprise for attendees by giving away too many details, but our Space Exploration Zone will feature interactive displays, spaceship models, educational exhibits and more! Our goal is to celebrate the incredible innovation taking place in the field, and to inspire people about the potential for humanity outside Earth,” said Trip Hunter, CEO of Silicon Valley Comic Con. “Beyond space travel, we’ll reveal more details about the other zones and programming tracks as the show draws near.”

Silicon Valley Comic Con tickets are available now, and can be purchased here. Recently, SVCC also introduced more discounted hotel options for employees, including convention-center-connected Hilton, and the Fairmont across the street. Attendee hotels can be booked at discounted rates here.
