Week in TV: 2/19 Patriots and Redemption

By Alyssa & DRWHO42

It is a quiet week for new entries however there are two which may draw your attention – Patriot and The Blacklist: Redemption. While the pilot for Patriot, on Amazon, aired in 2015 the series starts this week. The buzz is positive and centers the intelligence officer John Travner (played by Michael Dorman) as he assumes a mission to prevent Iran from going nuclear. There are obstacles he runs into during the course of his mission which he is forced to contend with. While it’s described as either offbeat or a comedy, it’s more of a study in the saying “what can go wrong, will”. There is dark humor some hilarity that ensues which should present something different for viewers. The second series we would like to highlight is The Blacklist: Redemption from NBC. This is a spinoff from The Blacklist staring Ryan Eggold (from The Blacklist), Edi Gathegi, and Famke Janssen. The series centers on a covert mercenary organization that is called to solve problems too dangerous for the government to handle. The characters were introduced last season on The Blacklist and we are expecting a Blacklist-like series without “Reddington”. We trust the production values and scripts will be good quality and worthy of the title Blacklist.

The Good Fight is worth calling attention to since it’s the first original show to debut on the new pay-to-play outlet, CBS on Demand. It is still unclear if we’ll be able to view the entire season of an original series like The Good Fight when it debutsCurrently, CBS is airing the first episode of The Good Wife on the CBS network with extra features available to CBS on Demand subscribers. CBS has said it or Star Trek: Discovery would only be in the On Demand listing and would not be available for free viewing. We are still awaiting details on viewing options and release plans.

Lastly, we will say goodbye to Son of Zorn, Six, Timeless, and The Wall which wrap up their first seasons this week.

Looking back at the prior week we were impressed with the returns of the Walking Dead & Humans. The Blog team started the weekly TWD recaps, last Sundays episode recap is here.
