First Look: CW’s Black Lightning
By DRWHO42
A new hero is coming to The CW! WB released the first character image today from their new CW hero series, Black Lighting. The character of Black Lighting was created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden in 1977 and was the first African-American DC Super Hero to have his own stand-alone comic. The pilot, which is being shot in Atlanta, will be directed by Salim Akil from a script he also wrote.
The series centers on Jefferson Pierce (played by Cress Williams) who made a choice to hang up his suit and walk away from his secret identity but is forced to return to his vigilante ways because of his two daughters.
The costume for Black Lightning was designed by Laura Jean Shannon, whose many film and television credits include the upcoming Jumanji sequel, The Jungle Book, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Blade: Trinity, Good Girls Revolt, and Iron Man, for which she was nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award.
The series marks yet another addition to the Berlanti TV empire. Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil, and Sarah Schechter will serve as executive producers for the series. The track record for Berlanti and CW hero series has been really good so I am excited at the prospect for this series.
Stay tune…. The CW will announce their Fall 2017 schedule on Thursday, May 18th. We should know more then.
