Con Intel: Lead up for Comicpalooza 2017
By Miclpea
In a few weeks, I will be heading to Comicpalooza in Houston. For anyone who is unfamiliar with this event, it is Texas’s largest pop culture festival. It started as a small signing at the Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Katy, Texas in July 2008. Approximately 500 people attended this event. As Comicpalooza has grown, it has had several venues as home. In 2010, it moved to its current location, the George R. Brown Convention Center. This has allowed the convention to grow to its largest attendance of over 40,000 attendees in 2016. Now the convention has more than 1 million square feet of floor space covering all the topics we know and love and, of course, celebrities.
This year Comicpalooza will be held May 12-14 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. Click here for their official site.
They have booked a stellar array of guests so far. Here are just a few:
Chuck Norris – Way of the Dragon, The Expendables, Delta Force Walker Texas Ranger
Anthony Mackie – Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron
Felicia Day – The Guild, Supernatural, Eureka
Mary McDonnell – Independence Day, Battlestar Galactica, Major Crimes, Dances with Wolves
Charlie Cox – Marvel’s Daredevil, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Stardust
Mike Colter – Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Halo 5: Guardians, Zero Dark Thirty
Finn Jones – Iron Fist, Game of Thrones
Jon Bernthal – Marvel’s The Punisher, Marvel’s Daredevil, The Walking Dead, Fury
Chad Coleman – The Expanse, The Walking Dead, The Wire
This is just a glimpse of the guests who have been confirmed. There will be so many more actors as well as comic book and graphic novel artists, voice actors, anime creators, authors, screenwriters, and comic writers. And let’s not forget the other activities we know and love such as panel discussions, gaming, cosplay, and, of course, there will be a film festival as well. Personally, I am hoping for a Punisher and Defenders panel with a surprise appearance by Krysten Ritter.
Comicpalooza looks to be a fun and exciting convention. Its growth has been phenomenal and I suspect with the guest list for this year, it will easily surpass any previous attendance records. I hope to see you there, but if you can’t make it, be sure to check back here for my article recapping the event. See you at Comicpalooza 2017!
