As we celebrate our nation’s birthday the week is a little light with respect to new offerings. This week we are taking a slightly different direction by suggesting a few binge worthy shows which that may have been overlooked. It’s an eclectic list, hopefully one or two series will strike your fancy.
Our picks …
Babylon 5 (on go90) is a ‘90s sci-fi series set on a space station in deep space. which was based on the principals of Star Trek while presenting great story arcs. The actors shined through their characters as they dealt with a wide range of issues such as politics, betrayals, drug addiction, love, and war. The series stands out through the acting, and the use of story arcs which permeate throughout the entire series. The series may start off at a slow pace but that is intentional to establish the characters and the story for the payoff. The entire series is available to stream for free at https://www.go90.com/shows/babylon5
Black Mirror (on Netflix) is a British science fiction television anthology series created by Charlie Brooker and centers around dark and satirical themes that examine modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Santa Clarita Diet (on Netflix) is a horror-comedy series created by Victor Fresco. The series stars Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore. The pair are real estate agents when life throws them a little curveball. The series is offbeat and original with a small dash of gore. Person of Interest (on Netflix) is a New York set series about former CIA operative (Jim Caviezel), a mysterious millionaire (Michael Emerson), and a couple of detectives (Taraji P. Henson and Kevin Chapman) who help save people from violent crimes after they are identified by a AI supercomputer. Some have compared to it to the 80’s series The Equalizer and there is plenty of action to satisfy viewers.
Trollhunters (on Netflix) is an animated series from the mind of Guillermo del Toro which features the voices of the late Anton Yelchin, Kelsey Grammer, and Ron Pearlman. This is a great series to watch with the family however discretion may be advised for the younger viewers.
