Next 2 Weeks in TV 7/16-29: GoT, The Strain, SDCC, & Sharks

By DRWHO42 and Alyssa

Note from the Editors: This is a special double dose of the TV listing since the blog team will be attending San Diego Comic Con.

Dracarys!  Games of Thrones fans rejoice because this week our favorite fantasy series makes its most anticipated return to HBO. This upcoming season looks promising as we witness the epic struggle to take the Iron Throne. We will not dwell on the fact that this is the second to last season yet (we are still in denial), however, there is a silver lining to with reports of spin off series (yes! more than one) under development so there is hope we will not see the end of The Seven Kingdoms just yet.

Also returning to our screens this Sunday is The Strain. This is the fourth and final season of this season. As a lead up to the series premiere DRWHO42 recently interviewed Cas Anvar who plays Sanjay Desai on the series (click here for the article).

For those not attending San Diego Comic Con you will not miss out on all the action. Syfy will three nightly specials, Syfy Presents Live From Comic Con, hosted by Zachary Levi. In addition, Conan will be taping his shows from San Diego that week as well. Both of these shows will be packed with guests and surprises from the con so you will not miss out on all of the SDCC action.

After the glory of San Diego Comic Con has concluded and we adjust to normalcy we will find ourselves glued to the couch for Shark Week.  The lineup from Discovery is impressive this year with various documentaries and special where Olympian Michael Phelps races a shark.

A notable highlight for the summer, which we discussed in our summer highlight article (click here), is the NBC series Midnight, Texas. This supernatural series takes place in a remote Texas town where normal is strange and outsides fit right in. The series includes psychics,  witches, angels, vampires, and much more.

Lastly, while we are at SDCC you can interact with us on Twitter on @FoCCBlog or @Friendsofcci and let us know what series you may be interested in and we will try to get it in on our coverage during SDCC. Happy SDCC!!!!

This supernatural thriller takes a journey into a remote Texas town called Midnight where nothing is what it seems.  Where being normal is strange and only outsiders fit in, Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different — a perfect place for anyone looking to hide from the outside world.

“Midnight, Texas” stars François Arnaud (“The Borgias”) as Manfred, a charming, powerful psychic who can communicate with spirits and finds safety in Midnight surrounding himself with both human and supernatural allies.  Midnight is also home to Bobo, proprietor of Midnight’s local pawn shop (Dylan Bruce, “Orphan Black”); Fiji, a witch who owns the local wiccan shop (Parisa Fitz-Henley, “Luke Cage”); Olivia, a mysterious assassin with a weapon for every occasion (Arielle Kebbel, “Ballers”); Joe, an angel who knows all of Midnight’s secrets having been around for millennia (Jason Lewis, “Sex and the City”); Lemuel, a wise vampire with a long history in Midnight (Peter Mensah, “True Blood”); Creek, an aspiring writer with big dreams who learns her family is harboring a deep secret (Sarah Ramos, “Parenthood”); and Rev. Emilio Sheehan, who can’t resist the pull of a full moon (Yul Vazquez, “Captain Phillips”).

As the town members fight off outside pressures from ever-suspicious cops, deadly biker gangs, and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form an unlikely but strong family.  “Midnight, Texas” is based on the best-selling book series by Charlaine Harris (author of the novels that inspired “True Blood”) and executive produced by Monica Owusu-Breen (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) and David Janollari (“Six Feet Under”) and produced by Universal Television and David Janollari Entertainment. Alyssa bought her first comic at age 7 and was hooked. She has collected comics most of her life. Recently, she has branched out to comic art and books and the occasional Lego set. She goes to as many cons as she can and enjoys the 'long form' storytelling of the television medium. She is also a foodie and is always up for trying new and different food.
