SDCC is finally here and there is plenty on our plates for this year’s con. I am writing this while on the plane to San Diego with a couple of early thoughts and a little insight into our coverage this year.
Personally, my SDCC plans are generally fluid with multiple backup plans. This year is a little different for me as this is my first year attending as Press. For our coverage we have secured attendance in several press rooms including Doctor Who, Dirk Gently, Supergirl, Fear the Walking Dead, Colony, Black Lightning, 12 Monkeys, The Expanse, Midnight Texas, and a few more are in the works potentially.
For panels outside of the ultra popular panels (especially those in Hall H and Ballroom 20) there are a few notables on my radar including Timeless, Legion, The Gifted, I generally add a few ‘behind-the-scenes’ panels where creatives discuss their work on some of my favorite TV series and movies. This year there are two panels on my agenda: Behind the Music: Fantasy, Fiction, and Fandom & Monsters, Mutants, and Mysteries: Sights and Sounds. These two appeal to me as a lifelong fan of movie and TV music (both incidental music that strikes the right mood for a scene and soundtracks) and visual effects. I cannot tell you how many time I hit the rewind button on my DVR to relive a scene because of the music or was enthralled by the visual effects. I would recommend you give these panels a look when building your SDCC schedule.
Parties are a great way to let off the steam and chill. This year I will attending the Game of Bloggers event after Preview Night, Wired Café, and the NBC’s 8th Annual Comic Con Party (which will celebrate the launch of Midnight, Texas).
That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more during and after the con.
