Recap: Boston Comic Con Day 1

by Alyssa

I am currently attending Boston Comic Con, which runs from August 11th-13th.

As I sit and wait to be let into the theater for the first panel on the main stage, Stan Lee, who will be on in 2 1/2 hours, I am posting my first impressions of a FanExpo show.

Initial impression is good. The con has the organization of Reed Pop shows plus a deep Artist Ally. I’ll be sure to post more as the con progresses.

There were assortment of passes available from single day to family passes. I purchased the lowest level of multi-day pass, which cost $97. This allowed me onto the floor 2 hours earlier than the single day passes.

This is the ticket hall at about 2:30. There is a line to get in to the hall on the far left.

While the sale floor is generally larger then last year, there seem to be fewer of the very small vendors. I am very pleasantly surprised by number of artists in Artist Alley.

Official Merchandise:
There are also show exclusives; an ‘Angry Groot is the Funko Pop highlight.

Artist Alley:
For those of us who are familiar with the building used for NYCC’s Artist Alley, the hall used by FanExpo is about 3 times as large.

Yes, that is a Ron Lim.

In conclusion, the line management I have seen so far is good. The lanes are taped off and there is a clear understanding of how to move people.

I’ll be exploring cosplaying and photo ops and autographing tomorrow. For tonight, I’m going to watch Stan the Man Lee, enjoy the art I purchased and attend the official party.

Alyssa bought her first comic at age 7 and was hooked. She has collected comics most of her life. Recently, she has branched out to comic art and books and the occasional Lego set. She goes to as many cons as she can and enjoys the 'long form' storytelling of the television medium. She is also a foodie and is always up for trying new and different food.
