Hangout 2/4: Mark Searby, Media and Con News

From an Englishman in San Diego’s site

“…I’m ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille!!!”

It’s been a tumultuous time in Hollywood, seeing a massive shift in attitudes and sensibilities in the last year, represented by an incredible range of diverse and entertaining films – for all of the criticism that San Diego Comic-Con (and con culture in general) receives for its showcasing of movie content, at the end of the day, it is what generates the most interest for the SDCC crowd.

Movie critic and cinephile Mark Searby joins Leonard and Alyssa to look at the upcoming Academy Awards, the nominations of which were released recently, and talks about the strength of movies in 2018, especially when it comes to genre fare. We’ll see how the new mood could affect SDCC and its content, as well as debating the narrowing attention on superhero and genre film, in the landscape of current affairs, as well as the Golden Age Of Television.

All of this, as well as the Week In TV and the latest con culture headlines – as always, it;’s going to be a fun show. We hope you can join us live!

Alyssa

Alyssa bought her first comic at age 7 and was hooked. She has collected comics most of her life. Recently, she has branched out to comic art and books and the occasional Lego set. She goes to as many cons as she can and enjoys the 'long form' storytelling of the television medium. She is also a foodie and is always up for trying new and different food.
