I really liked how they did the first episode

Enjoyed the pacing of the first episode.  Need to rewatch to see if any walkers were in any scenes in the background.  I believe I saw one in the park as they were driving by.  Off topic is there a minimum or suggested amount to donate to this site?

Haven't had the chance to comment on this yet, since I just was bumped up to full time hours at work (which means more money in the bank for paying off my student loans AND for future cons, so I'm not complaining  ;D).

Anyways, I actually really enjoyed the pacing of the first episode as well, mostly because it was so different from TWD and focused a lot on character establishment and development. I think that all of that will certainly help when they start to show the fall of society, and it will hopefully just make it that much more interesting!

I thought it was a little slow to be honest but that's just me.  I understand the slow burn they're trying to do to flesh out the characters but i'm hoping once it gets going, it hits light speed.  This season is six episodes right?

I dunno. I usually like the character development in zombie/post-apocalyptic stories, but I didn't really find myself liking any of the characters by the end of the first show.  Without spoiling it for anyone that hasn't seen it, I just found the decision-making by some of the main characters pretty unrealistic.  It seems like the show may be plagued by some weak writing and the few "omg, **** just got real" moments just felt pretty underwhelming.  I hope for the rest of the Walking Dead/zombie genre fans out there that it will get better, but the trailer of what's coming up didn't leave me much hope.  So I won't be back for more.  Unfortunate, too, I was pretty hyped for it.

I have to admit, I wasn't immediately drawn in by any of the characters, but I'm going to give it a chance. At least the entire first season/6 episodes.

I probably wouldn't have minded the slow start if I had connected more with the characters. Am I the only one who found the drug addict guy/Tom Riddle to be really boring?

Daya's Mom from OITNB is funny on that show. I'm hoping that they show her more next week and she breathes some life into the characters. They need it when they're fighting the undead!

Okay, okay, I'll admit it - I may have enjoyed it not so much for the characters themselves, but mostly for the fact that I was yelling at them through the screen the entire time about how the zombie apocalypse had come and that they were acting like idiots. Sometimes it's a lot of fun knowing more than the characters  ;D

Is it on that weird cable network or on a channel you can actually access?

AMC is launching its own channel here. But it's on a cable provider that isn't that great.

Finally watched the first episode so now I'm only a week behind.  :)
I was deeply underwhelmed. I don't mind a slow burn but if they're going to spend that much time on characterization it would be nice if I actually liked any of the characters...

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Also, I feel like the show was kind of trying to make points about the class-stratification of LA, and the militarization of the police, etc., but you know that's all going to get dropped as soon as the zombies really get going, so it seemed kind of vague and pointless.

I thought the opening scenes in the abandoned building were awful. I mean, everything as bad about them, especially the editing. When he got outside and we see that this was LA before the apocalypse, they back out to a really wide shot and you see a plane flying in the background. They hold it so long that you expect the plane to crash, but nothing happens. Some people probably liked it, thinking that it builds the tension; I would've rather seen the plan go down, but that may have been too 9/11ish. The next sequence, the family in the morning was so boring and cliched I shut it off. I downloaded the first two episodes so I'll try it again this weekend.

The second episode was better than the first, in terms of the characters. They weren't quite as dull and pedantic, and even though they do stupid things, at least you can sort of understand why.
